Making decisions is hard. Making good decisions is even harder. My mission with this newsletter is to help ease the process by providing you with tools to navigate the modern information landscape.
What kind of tools?
Good decisions require good information. Intuition plays a role, as does experience, but that’s not enough to be consistent. For consistency, you need good information and a reliable process by which to use it. In general, this means taking a methodical, fact-based approach to your decision-making.
In developing this approach, we will focus on data and information literacy, strong communication practices, and various mental models. We will also explore how emerging technologies like artificial intelligence, machine learning, and information retrieval techniques can help us along the way.
As for the content of the newsletter, it includes short essays, reference snippets, and links around the web. Some of this content will be technical in nature, but only insofar as understanding the technical aspects of decision-making can make you more data and technology literate.
How often is the newsletter published?
My goal is to publish this newsletter on a weekly basis, though you may occasionally see extra updates (or delayed ones.) I don’t want to overwhelm you with emails, so I’ll try to keep the pace reasonable.
Who writes this newsletter?
I do! My name is Severin and I am a writer, data scientist, and occasional rabble-rouser. I’m passionate about technology, public policy, and finding ways to fuse the two effectively.
Should I subscribe?
In a word, yes! As a subscriber, you’ll get full access to the Lemmalytica newsletter and the website. Updates will come straight to your inbox as soon as they’re published, meaning you’ll never miss any content. Plus, subscribing is a great way to show your support.
